Set up with an AI assistant

Let an AI assistant install Core, connect your servers and send a test alert, asking before it changes anything.

3 min read

You can hand the whole setup to an AI assistant. It asks you a few questions, then installs and verifies Core on your server, connects the servers you want to watch and sends a test alert. It asks before it changes any machine.

Open Claude with the setup prompt

With Claude Code or another assistant that runs commands

Paste this into the assistant, in a session that can reach your server:

Set up Orion (self-hosted monitoring) for me end to end. Read
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sunday-studio/orion/main/docs/ai-setup.md and follow it step by step.
Ask me the questions it lists first, and ask before you change anything on a machine.

What the assistant does

  1. Asks where Core will run, the address people and servers will use (a server IP or a domain), which servers to watch and how you want alerts.
  2. Checks the machine for Docker, Compose, curl and openssl.
  3. Runs the setup script and verifies that both services are healthy.
  4. Installs the Node on each server you approve and checks it with orion-node doctor.
  5. Helps you add a first monitor and an alert channel, and sends a test.
  6. Tells you the address, where the password is stored and how to back up and upgrade.
What it will not do. It will not install anything or open a port without your yes, will not guess a domain, and stops on the first failed check or checksum instead of working around it.

The instructions the assistant follows are public: docs/ai-setup.md.
